Sanford Named Among Those Receiving
Girl Scouts 'San Diego's 10 Coolest Women of 2003;
Soroptimist International's "Women of Accomplishment;"
Small Business Association Award, and
YMCA's Golden Triangle Distinguished Service Award
Speaker, Trainer, and Network Organizer, Dee Sanford is certainly receiving her share of hard earned recognition this year! Named one of the "10 Coolest Women of 2003" by the Girl Scouts on May 6, Sanford was among the 10 women honored in the ceremony conducted by Council President Lucy Jackson and Executive Director JoDee Jacob. Channel 8's anchorwoman Pamela Davis, said, "A cool woman has a vision. She has overcome challenges to make that vision a reality. She balances work and family and friends. She doesn't need to be a celebrity or a household name -- but she is an inspiration. She raises the standard of excellence for service to the community and serves as a model to others."
On June 9, 2003, Sanford receives the prestigious Small Business Administration (SBA) "Delores Braswell Advocating Women in Business Award" (known throughout the country as the "SBA Women in Business Advocate of the Year" Award). the SBA/Regional Chamber of Commerce luncheon will be held at the San Diego Marriott Hotel.
May 12, Sanford received the "Woman of Accomplishment" from Soroptimist International, San Diego, and on May 28, the YMCA's Golden Triangle of Distinguished Service Award for her work with the Jackie Robinson Family YMCA and as Chair of the YMCA Dr. Martin Luther King Human Dignity Award Breakfast for the past four years. Sanford was featured in Metropolitan Magazine's February 2003 issue as an "African American in the Spotlight," and the May 2003 issue as a "Small Business Hero."
A professional corporate, government, and industry association conference speaker with international acclaim, Sanford is most recognized in San Diego as a sought after presenter at businesswomen's networking meetings and conferences, and as founder of two networking organizations, African American Business Women of Vision in 1997, and the "All Business Women's Celebration of Women's History Month" in 2001 (ABWC). ABWC is San Diego's premier "on purpose" multicultural networking event bringing together business women from all industries, ethnicities, and socioeconomic backgrounds to expand their connections and business opportunities. She also hosts and produces "The Christian Business Forum," a weekly San Diego based cable interview show featuring small business owners.
Sanford was a finalist in San Diego Business Journal's "San Diego Women Who Mean Business" and the first winner of Guru.com's "United We Work" award.
